on the bike go ROUND & ROUND...
It's that time of year when you look outside and you see runners, walkers and bikers. Dave and I enjoy the afternoon bike ride...and so does Connor, contrary to what the photo above displays. We usually stay on base in the afternoons and ride along the river walk where we get to see and enjoy the views from the Potomac.
Here we are looking at several sail boats enjoying a peaceful evening on the river. Some of the pictures you can get from the river with a standard power shot camera are magnificent.
Isn't this just beautiful!?! I should have been a photographer! :)
Here is a nice view of the capital when we were on our ride the other day. And sometimes we like to stop and play.
We try to run Connor so much, that he is begging to go to bed at night. As I recall, he fell asleep pretty fast after this. :) Biking is fun and I'm really glad we do it as a family.
LOL... I have gotten several comments about my ringer on my bike. There was a young girl at the restrooms (last summer) who was surprised when I came out and mounted my bike...
she said, "Is that your bike?"
"Yes it is."
She responded, "but that says you love your mom".
I smiled and said, "I absolutely love my mom."
...her response, "but your old!"
my response, "you never stop loving your mom."
I love you mom. I don't need a bike ringer to remind me...but it is cute! :)
I'll update you on our biking adventures over the warmer months!

Sesame Street
SESAME STREET
"Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street
Come and play
Everything's A-OK
Friendly neighbors there
That's where we meet
Can you tell me how to get
How to get to Sesame Street...."

Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street

Growing up Dave and I were all to familiar with the Sesame Street song, as the show dominated children's television viewing on PBS. Now it strives to compete with all the new shows such as Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob Squarepants, and now Connor's new favorite show, FanBoy and ChumChum. However, when I found out that the USO was giving away tickets to see Sesame Street perform... I got THREE tickets! We were all excited to see the muppets!
Remember "It Ain't Easy Being Green"? Kermit the Frog helped us to appreciate being different, even if in an oddball, nerdy, sometimes misunderstood, yet likeable way. Big Bird and Snuffleupagus taught us about friendship despite differences, and eventually how to overcome shyness. Was it years before anyone but Big Bird knew Snuffy existed, or did it just seem like it? Maybe it was just a couple of seasons.
Ernie and Bert taught us how to cope with sharing a room with other siblings, and respect for other people's feelings and property; and that was no easy feat for most of us, unless you were the younger sibling...which neither Dave or I were. Lessons like that really came in handy whilst in the military. :)
Oscar taught us that it's okay, even fun, to be a grouch and collect junk. (So it's really unfair for us to blame our grandmothers for our packrat tendencies.) Grover's restaurant skits taught us table manners, attention to detailed, and to watch out for flies in the soup. The Count, well, he taught us to count - in Spanish, no less. Cookie Monster taught us good manners, the value of saying "Please" and "Thank You", even though he wasted a lot of perfectly good cookies over the years. Good old Guy Smiley was always smiling. And Roosevelt Franklin taught us that school was cool. This might be why I have a passion for learning and now an information addict.
It was great to see some of those silly muppets perform. We all enjoyed the show and Sesame Street done a great job performing to the military families. They touched on emotions and how to deal with them when someone you love leaves. Since many military families deal with relocating and deployments, this was an ideal show for military children.
Other things that happened throughout the show. ^^^ Dave tried to rob me! ^^^ I reminded him that it was a moot point if it was coming from his wallet. "Oh yeah" :)
So Connor sported the bandana for about 2 minutes. He was busy.........
PLAYING!!! Give a kid a new toy and they are entertained for hours... thanks Sesame Street!
The funniest shot of the evening!! LOL You can't really tell but Connor was watching his toy spin, which made his eyes cross!
This was candid shot of Connor and I before the show. My hair was a mess because we biked there...but OH WELL! :) Connor had a great time seeing his favorite muppet... ELMO!
Everyone should make time to occasionally revisit Sesame Street. I dare you not to enjoy the trip. And take the kids along, too. It's classic.

Day at the Ball Park
So back in early March Miranda and I one night decided to sit down and plan our Spring/Summer out. Well Miranda asked me if I wanted to take Connor to a baseball game. After taking Connor to a couple games last year he has been asking to go back all off-season. So of course I want to take Connor to some more games this year. So we planned on this weekend as the Brewers were coming to town. Now I am not an avid baseball fan let alone Brewers fan so I really could have cared less about the outcome but I love spending time with Connor so oh well.
Well, as many of you may imagine parking is terrible in DC so I decided the way to go would be to take the bike. It is only a short 3 mile ride from our front door so I thought "no problem", even with the trailer that Connor rides in. Well what I neglected was the wind. It was terrible! Even when I was going down hill I had to pedal just to keep momentum. The whole way to the park I was sucking wind. Connor was in the trailer saying "Daddy I want to go faster!" Lets just say the extra 30lbs I was towing wasn't making it easier. By the time I checked my bike in to the bike valet I was a sweaty mess. Connor was well rested and ready for the game.
So we got to the park about an hour before the game started so I took Connor to the playground in the ballpark. Like a typical kid he was off and playing in no time, leaving me to stand on the side like chopped liver. The worst part is whenever he happened to be near by and I would talk to him he acted like he didn't know me. Wow, what a reality check. He's not even four and already I am getting ignored. About 15 mins before the game started Connor decides he is done playing and wants to go find our seats.
We get to our seats and we are surrounded by Brewers fans! Which was nice. The couple that sat in front of us were from Sobieski, WI and the one was wearing a Packers Shirt. Connor saw it and without missing a beat started chanting "Go, Pack, Go!". Before long he had the whole section chanting "Go, Pack, Go!" and booing the Vikings. It was great! Connor had everyone eating out of his hand. What happened next was something straight out of movie.
Connor had his baseball glove with him and every time there was there was a left handed batter up I told Connor to put his glove up because they were going to hit a ball at him. Well the couple in front of us thought it would be nice to get him a ball and give it to him. Well it was the top of the 6th and Prince Fielder was up to bat and he fouls a ball right at us! It was short but it was right on line with where we were sitting and Connor closed his eyes held his glove high and the guy put the ball in Connors glove. Connors eyes got huge when he looked in his glove and thought he caught the ball! Then not even batting an eyelash Connor grabs the ball and throws it back! We were two rows back from the ledge and three levels up, and down the ball goes! The entire section yelled "NO!" Connor was so embarassed he ducked his face behind me. The guy was so nice he actually went done talked to the people the ball landed on and got it back for Connor. That is what I call "Wisconsin classy". I had to buy him a beer. The guy came back and gave me the ball to hang on to.
I had so much fun with Connor at the game. Connor is napping right now as the day took it all out of him. I can't wait until the Packers come to town this football season. Nats 8 Brew Crew 0. Oh Well.

Annabell Lee
I have always had an infinitive love for poetry and have written poetry since I was a little girl. So in the spirit of poetry month - April - I wanted to share my favorite poem, Annabell Lee written by Edgar Allan Poe. It is such a beautiful written poem that has such immense emotion. This was one of Poe's favorite poems and the last complete poem he wrote; he took extraordinary steps to get it recognized and printed. And you can definitely see why....
A quick synopsis about the poem:
The poem's narrator describes his love for Annabel Lee, which began many years ago in an unnamed "kingdom by the sea." Though they were young, their love for one another burned with such an intensity that angels became jealous. For that reason, the narrator believes, the angels caused her death. Even so, their love is strong enough that it extends beyond the grave and the narrator believes their two souls are still entwined. Every night, he dreams of Annabel Lee and sees the brightness of her eyes in the stars. He admits that every night he lies down by her side in her tomb by the sea.
It is so romantic! It reminds me of Dave and I -- except for the fact that 1) I'm not dead, 2) we aren't young, and 3) we don't live by the sea.
Annabell Lee
It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.
I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea;
But we loved with a love that was more than love -
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.
And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulcher
In this kingdom by the sea.
The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me
Yes! that was the reason
(as all men know, In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.
But our love was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we
Of many far wiser than we
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.
For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling, my darling, my life and my bride,
In the sepulcher there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.

What a wonderful place...
What a wonderful place this world would be--If God could find in you and me- A touch of perfection in all that we do, Whether the task be routine or new.
How much we would add to peace and joy-- If a touch of perfection we could employ-- with a helping hand, a smile, or a deed, -- Regardless of a brother's color or creed.
What joy it must be at the end of the road-- To know we have helped with another's load.
What peace we would find at the end of life's way,-- If we lived with a touch of perfection each day.
How much we would add to peace and joy-- If a touch of perfection we could employ-- with a helping hand, a smile, or a deed, -- Regardless of a brother's color or creed.

Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies!
DID SOMEONE SAY...COOKIES!!
Tonight we decided to make some homemade chocolate chip cookies, while our pizza was in the oven. Yes, I know it is not the best diet... but we did it anyway! Today was a rainy day and we all wanted to do something fun as a family. Connor has had a rash, which we thought might be the chicken pox but he didn't have any other symptoms besides a rash... so probably not the chicken pox! In any case, he's been home from school for a couple days and needed something more constructive to do than watch, "Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs" for the millionth time. So SUPER dad to the rescue!!! Dave brings home the makings for homemade chocolate chip cookies!
Here Connor loves to help by stirring the flour, while Dave prepares the rest of the dough. Everyone helps in the process...
Connor stirs!
I help by measuring out the ingredients ... and taking the pictures!
Dave works his magic on the dough, adding a touch of LOVE! :) (psst...it is the "secret" ingredient)
Then.....Connor waits.... FOREVER... so he thinks!
11 minutes later..........
Connor enjoys one before bed time....so does mommy and daddy, but we ate ours faster than Connor (so no pictures). It was a great family project!
With a delicious ending! :)

Kagen's Visit
Kagen's Visit
15 years ago I took a trip to New Mexico to visit my father and his "new" family. I met for the first time a little 5 year old boy, named Kagen. I was only 14 years of age and spent 2 weeks trying to avoid... everyone! LOL Ok I was a teenager once too! =P
About 5 years ago, I got back in touch with Kagen through email and the magic of MSN messenger. The end of March I was chatting with Kagen and he asked if he could come out and redirect his flight from New York to DC. OF COURSE!! I was really excited to see him... and when I did, I knew right away that was my "little" brother. He looked just like my brother, Justin.
Of course I took him to do some sight seeing... yes he just LOVED that. If you read his shirt it says, "I'm really excited to be here" and he was. :) We made up for lost time and played with some play doh. I made him a bracelet and necklace... you like?
We also watched Connor bake some cookies for us... they were DELICIOUS too! :)
Kagen didn't help much, he was glued to his game World of Warcraft (WoW). He is 20 years old and addicted to video games.... that is not uncommon though. =) Below he plays his game and teaches Connor! Connor loved it!
Connor loved Uncle Kagen's visit and was excited to show him off at school. Here they are posing before we took Connor to school.
Kagen also befriended our family pet, Chaser. Chaser enjoyed the extra attention, much like Connor!!!
It was so great to see Kagen again and actually get to know him and his personality. He reminds me so much of Justin, but it is Kagen.... the one and only. :) I hope to see him again soon. Thanks for visiting Kagen!
White House Easter Egg Roll
White House Easter Egg Roll
Last year we had tickets to go to the White House Easter Egg Roll, but Connor was sick; so I was super excited that we had the chance again to go this year. One problem: two tickets for three people. Dave was so gracious to let Connor and I go together. What an exciting but exhausting experience!
We were with group A, the first group of the day. We had to be in line early which meant the day would start even earlier. The day started like this: 5:30 am - wake up, 6:20 am - metro, missed the train... next train 10 minutes, confused at which metro stop is closer so we follow the crowd dressed up...walking...walking,....walking... OMG... where are we?? Walking more!! Ok I know where we are!!! I see the crowds. 7:20 am waiting in line.... waiting...waiting.... 8:15...waiting...line is moving... going through security. They have to throw our bananas away...urgh! I'm hungry... Connor is hungry, we didn't eat breakfast because we were rushing out the door! In any case we go through security and enter a mass of disorganization... which suppose to be TWO lines! Its okay though...some band was on a nearby stage entertaining Connor -- Jonas Band! 9 am we finally get through the lines and walk up to the south lawn! We see so much going on, but Connor sees -- SPONGEBOB!
He was in much AWE of all the colors and characters walking around. I wanted Connor to do the Easter Egg Roll and Easter Egg Hunt... so that is what we did. There was so much going on and the lines were long...I had to carry our coats because the weather had changed from chilly to wonderful! The Easter Egg Roll line was long, but it moved swiftly.
We stopped to take a picture in the line!
LOL..Connor was hitting the egg like a golf ball. I kept ducking every time he swung. I was ready for it to fly and hit another kid or one of the other parents. They use real eggs, Connor's was purple and I would have took a picture of it, but there was really nothing left of it. :)
Connor was one of the first to finish! He screamed, "Mommy I won!" LOL
Next we went to go find some Easter eggs, because the darn Easter bunny keeps making a mess, leaving her eggs everywhere! So we try to find the Easter Egg Hunt walking around -- our stomachs are growling -- and the line for food was ridiculous. Mind you we only have until 9:50 before Group A is asked to leave the lawn. So we pass Elmo doing story time --
We pass a stage full of jumping, jiving dancers ... with a MOUSE mascot?
So we finally find the Easter Egg Hunt and again...the line is LONG!! We are both hungry and tired of lines! We make the decision to meet back up with dad and uncle Kagen, who was visiting from New Mexico -- after we help the Easter Bunny clean up the mess.
"MOMMY MOMMY -- I FOUND A BIG ONE!" -- That must have been one HUGE Easter Bunny!
He finds his two eggs and it is time for us to meet up with dad and Uncle Kagen! We are hungry and the first thing Connor says, "Time to eat...yay!". As we leave the Easter Egg hunt we meet up with some friends from base that we walked in with...it must have been fate! :) ** Hi Evelyn - Hi Stephanie **
Our next stop was the gate to get our Souvenir White House 2010 Easter Egg! We received the purple one...Connor picked it out.
It was a great experience, but the lines were long and our feet were exhausted....maybe next year dad can enjoy the journey with Connor.
