White House Easter Egg Roll

 White House Easter Egg Roll

Last year we had tickets to go to the White House Easter Egg Roll, but Connor was sick; so I was super excited that we had the chance again to go this year.  One problem:  two tickets for three people.  Dave was so gracious to let Connor and I go together.  What an exciting but exhausting experience!

We were with group A, the first group of the day.  We had to be in line early which meant the day would start even earlier.  The day started like this: 5:30 am - wake up, 6:20 am - metro, missed the train... next train 10 minutes, confused at which metro stop is closer so we follow the crowd dressed up...walking...walking,....walking... OMG... where are we??  Walking more!!  Ok I know where we are!!!  I see the crowds.  7:20 am waiting in line.... waiting...waiting.... 8:15...waiting...line is moving... going through security.  They have to throw our bananas away...urgh!  I'm hungry... Connor is hungry, we didn't eat breakfast because we were rushing out the door!  In any case we go through security and enter a mass of disorganization... which suppose to be TWO lines!  Its okay though...some band was on a nearby stage entertaining Connor -- Jonas Band!  9 am we finally get through the lines and walk up to the south lawn!  We see so much going on, but Connor sees -- SPONGEBOB!

He was in much AWE of all the colors and characters walking around.  I wanted Connor to do the Easter Egg Roll and Easter Egg Hunt... so that is what we did.  There was so much going on and the lines were long...I had to carry our coats because the weather had changed from chilly to wonderful!  The Easter Egg Roll line was long, but it moved swiftly.

We stopped to take a picture in the line!

LOL..Connor was hitting the egg like a golf ball.  I kept ducking every time he swung.  I was ready for it to fly and hit another kid or one of the other parents.  They use real eggs, Connor's was purple and I would have took a picture of it, but there was really nothing left of it. :)

Connor was one of the first to finish!  He screamed, "Mommy I won!"  LOL

Next we went to go find some Easter eggs, because the darn Easter bunny keeps making a mess, leaving her eggs everywhere!  So we try to find the Easter Egg Hunt walking around -- our stomachs are growling -- and the line for food was ridiculous.  Mind you we only have until 9:50 before Group A is asked to leave the lawn.   So we pass Elmo doing story time --

We pass a stage full of jumping, jiving dancers ... with a MOUSE mascot?

So we finally find the Easter Egg Hunt and again...the line is LONG!!  We are both hungry and tired of lines!  We make the decision to meet back up with dad and uncle Kagen, who was visiting from New Mexico -- after we help the Easter Bunny clean up the mess.

"MOMMY MOMMY -- I FOUND A BIG ONE!" -- That must have been one HUGE Easter Bunny!

He finds his two eggs and it is time for us to meet up with dad and Uncle Kagen!  We are hungry and the first thing Connor says, "Time to eat...yay!".  As we leave the Easter Egg hunt we meet up with some friends from base that we walked in with...it must have been fate! :)  ** Hi Evelyn - Hi Stephanie **

Our next stop was the gate to get our Souvenir White House 2010 Easter Egg!  We received the purple one...Connor picked it out.

It was a great experience, but the lines were long and our feet were exhausted....maybe next year dad can enjoy the journey with Connor.
